Prof. Ebitimitula Nicholas Etebu was born in Lagos to the Etebu family of Odi, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. He had his primary education in Lagos and also attended the Federal Government College Warri, Delta State. He was briefly at University of Ibadan before leaving for Ukraine to study Medicine. His training made him to pass through Kharkov State University, Kharkov, Lvov State Medical School, Lvov and the Kiev State Medical School Kiev, obtaining the Doctor of Medicine Degree (MD). He was a House Officer at the General Hospital, Port Harcourt and did his NYSC Assignment at the General Hospital, Kaltungo and Specialist Hospital, Bauchi both in Bauchi State. He worked as a Medical Officer at hospitals at Brass and Agudama-Ekpetiama in Bayelsa State and Bodo and Chest Clinic Port Harcourt in Rivers State. He was in the Residency training programme at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) and obtained the fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Pathology. He was appointed a lecturer in Anatomical Pathology and Consultant Pathologist by the University of Port Harcourt and UPTH respectively. He was the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa from 2006 – 2014 during which the hospital recorded tremendous growth and reformation. He was appointed Professor of Pathology in 2014 by the Niger Delta University and recently the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Bayelsa State.
